The Project



TANGENT overall objective is to develop new complementary tools for optimising traffic operations in a coordinated and dynamic way from a multimodal perspective and considering automated/non-automated vehicles, passengers, and freight transport. TANGENT supports the knowledge and management of mobility flows among transport modes in addition to enabling the implementation and integration of innovative mobility solutions, services, and business models.

The specific objectives of the project are to:

  • Support transport network agents
  • Process relevant data
  • Understand and model transport users’ behaviours and motivations in a multimodal and automated landscape
  • Develop a state-of-the-art framework to monitor and forecast the traffic flow and traffic conditions, as well as transport demand and supply under various circumstances
  • Optimise traffic management with Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques
  • Integrate the TANGENT solutions and set up the infrastructure to build up the traffic operation decision making support tool.
  • Assess the impact of the decision-making tool and services in the multimodal network through Case Studies
  • Disseminate results and provide training for transport operators and policy makers
  • Deliver new business models based on transport agents’ cooperation
